The Mario Party series, which first started in 1999 with Mario party for the Nintendo 64, is a multiplayer Mario game based on a board game. The Mario Party Series currently has 8 games in the series, with spin-offs including Mario Party DS, Mario Party Advance, and Mario Party-e and Mario Party Arcade. In the games, players run across digital game boards as classic Mario characters, collecting coins, items and eventually stars. Whoever has the most most stars at the end wins.

Star Space
Once you reach the star space, you may purchase a star for 20 coins. Though other conditions may apply for other boards.
Bowser Space
If you land here, something bad will most likely happen. You might go into a Bowser mini-game. He may make you all have the same amount of coins. This is good for some, bad for others. He may cause destruction on someone or something.
DK Space
If you land here, you play a DK mini-game
Chance Space
When you land here, something like switching directions or doubling spaces may happen.
Happening Space
When you land on this space, an event will trigger causing either good or bad to someone.
King Boo
When you pass King Boo, he will steal coins for free from someone or steal a star for the cost of 50 coins.
Blue Coin Space
When you land on one, a blue dice block will appear, then when you smash it, that number is the amount of coins you are going to get. (This will appear in Mario Party 9 and 10)
