Luigi

Luigi is a recurring character in the Mario series. He was designed by the Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto. He is the brother of Mario. Along with his brother, they are both plumbers.

He originally used the same sprites as Mario. These have changed over time into a separate character of his own. He first appeared in the original Mario Bros.

In both Super Mario Bros. 2 games, Luigi could be selected as a playable character and was already given his own characteristics. In the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, Luigi can jump farther and higher but his landing is harder to manage, while Mario's shorter both in height and distance but can stop-on-a-dime. In the American Super Mario Bros. 2, Luigi can merely jump higher(with his legs flailing in the air), but his jump can be shortened if he's holding an item.

In Super Mario 64 DS, Luigi resembles Mario but he lacks the Wall Jump. His punches are weaker, he jumps farther and can run over the water. By getting a Power Flower he can become invisible.

After a long time of playing second fiddle to Mario, Luigi was finally given a game of his own Luigi's Mansion. The plot of the game was that Luigi won a mansion in a competition he didn't enter. Upon arriving at the mansion, he found it was infested with ghosts. armed with a vacuum cleaner named the Poltergeist 3000, it was his job to get rid of them all.

In Super Paper Mario, Luigi jumps higher and can perform a super jump.

After completing Super Mario Galaxy with 120 stars, you unlock a new game:Super Luigi Galaxy, where you play as Luigi instead of Mario

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Luigi is a playable character, as he was in the previous Smash Bros. games.
