Sonic the Hedgehog

Main articles: wikia:c:sonic:Sonic the Hedgehog (Character) and the Sonic News Network

Sonic the Hedgehog is the star of many games made by, and longtime mascot of, SEGA, a producer of video game software, and onetime major competitor with Nintendo in the video game console wars of the 1990's.

Sonic was often viewed as the counterpart to Mario, each representing their respective rival company in the video game market. After SEGA dropped out of producing console and handheld hardware, they turned their focus to creating games to be played on other companies' gaming systems. Because of this, Sonic remains a popular and iconic character in the video game arena, although he has now ironically mostly become a mainstay on the video game systems manufactured by SEGA's former rival, Nintendo.

Because of his new position as a freelancer, with connections to Nintendo, Sonic has finally made his long-awaited first appearance alongside Mario, as well as co-stars of both, in the Wii game, Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games. He is also the rival to Shadow the Hedgehog who is also in Olympic Games.

Super Smash Bros. Series

Main articles: wikia:c:ssb:Sonic the Hedgehog and SmashWiki

Sonic was confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl on October 10, 2007 by Masahiro Sakurai on the official website. This is the first time a third party character has appeared in a Super Smash Bros. game. Also appearing as an Assist Trophy, is Shadow the Hedgehog. In Sonics final smash, he turns into Super Sonic and his attacks are powered up and he can fly for a short period of time, he also cannot be killed, no matter how far off the blast zone he is, and he cannot taunt. Interestingly enough, Sonic was not featured in the Subspace Story, rather he appeared in the last minute as a playable character. Supposedly, he was just hanging around when caught in the explosion and investigated to find why he was here, and how to get out, and he just happened to find Tabuu.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games

The game Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games is a Nintendo and SEGA collaboration. The games were to settle the rivalry between the two series. The games became a hit and are later to release Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games.

Trivia
