Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is a game for the Nintendo DS, developed by Sega and produced by Nintendo. It was released shortly after its Wii counterpart, and is the first handheld installment of the Mario & Sonic series. It is an official game for the Beijing 2008 Olympics, and it features venues similar to real ones in Beijing. Like its Wii counterpart, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for the Nintendo DS featured support for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection prior to its closure in May 2014.
The game is a collection of Olympic sports events at which characters from the Mario franchise and characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, relying heavily on the motion-sensing capabilities of the Wii Remote. This is the first handheld game to feature both Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog characters as playable.
Characters[]
There are sixteen playable characters in the game. Eight of these are from the Mario franchise and eight which are from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The characters are split into four different groups of four characters each.
