Kongo Jungle (also known as Jungle, Jungle Japes and Jungle World)[1] is a large jungle on Donkey Kong Island where is the Kong Family's main habitation who served as the 4th location in Donkey Kong (Game Boy) (starring Mario) and always serving as the 1st location in most Donkey Kong games (starring DK).

Overview[]

The jungle itself is full of palm trees, banana trees, plants, hills, tunnels, seaside, canyon, small temple ruins, flowers and waterfalls.

History[]

Donkey Kong series[]

In Donkey Kong with name Jungle, it was explored by Mario as the fourth stage of the journey to rescue Pauline from Donkey Kong's hands. It was here that the carpenter got into trouble on account of Donkey Kong Jr. who was helping his father stop him from saving Pauline and of course he meets with the big monkey 3 times until he is defeated.

In Donkey Kong Country, is in this jungle where Donkey Kong & Diddy Kong begin their journey to recover the Banana Hoard by the Kremling Krew under the Klump's leadership and had the battle against Very Gnawty where the duo defeats the same and recovers the first banana.[2]

In Donkey Kong 64 with name Jungle Japes, Donkey Kong had access to enter a part of it when he had a Golden Banana. Here DK receives his first weapon from Funky's Armory, meets with Snide making a deal, rescues Diddy by hitting 3 target switches and meets with Troff & Scoff where he faces Army Dillo.

In DK: King of Swing with name Jungle World, is the third time which it is exploited by DK to recover the medals by King K. Rool. He was trained by Cranky, exploring the backyard on treehouse, climbing trees, making detours in the cave and controlling mechanisms in the temple until facing Congazuma.

In Donkey Kong Country Returns with name Jungle again, is explored for the fourth time by DK & Diddy to once again retrieve the Banana Hoard stolen by the Tiki Tak Tribe. This time the duo had to explore the small ruins, dodging carnivorous plants, climbing trees with Rambi, walking in the shadows at sunset, destroying structures and riding the wagon until they faced Mugly who was in control of Kalimba.

In Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, the jungle became the first stage of the sixth location and covered in ice with the rest of Donkey Kong Island.

Super Smash Bros series[]

In the Super Smash Bros. series, Kongo Jungle appears as a stage in all the games in the series. In the first Super Smash Bros. game, Kongo Jungle is called Congo Jungle for unknown reasons. There is a large wooden platform with two smaller floating ones on the stage. There is also two palm trees on both sides of the wooden platform and a Barrel Cannon underneath the stage.

Kongo Jungle also appears in Super Smash Bros. Melee where it goes by its original title. This stage is made of logs and has flowing water underneath the stage. There is also a house which appears to be a science lab if the player looks at it closely and can also see Cranky Kong's shadow. There are also Klaptraps which occasionally appear on the stage in the waterfall along with logs that can be used as rafts. The Kongo Jungle appears in the Adventure Mode of Super Smash Bros. Melee where the player has to defeat two Donkey Kongs. This stage reappears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl with the same features.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Kongo Jungle is featured as the background of the DK Island.

Profiles[]

Donkey Kong[]

  • Super Game Boy Player's Guide (page 37): Donkey Kong and son feel quite at home in this level. The jungle is their natural habitat, after all. Our Brooklyn-born plumber, however, is a bit out of his element. On their home turf, Donkey Kong and Junior will make Mario's life tough.

Donkey Kong Country[]

  • SNES instruction booklet (page 20): Donkey Kong's home is in the jungle, where he is master of all he surveys (or so he thinks). You'll start your adventure in "Jungle Hijinks," which introduces you to the play control of the game. This is also a great place to earn extra lives if you come back to it later in the game. In the jungle, you'll find many vines strung between the palms that are great for swinging over trouble areas.
  • Nintendo Power vol. 169 (page 125): Your journey begins on Donkey Kong's home turf—Kongo Jungle. Unfortunately, the place is swarming with enemies. You'll need every move at Donkey's and Diddy disposal to reclaim the jungle from King K. Rool and his army of evil Kremlings.
  • GBA Prima Official Game Guide (page 14): With its lush jungle canopies, straightforward leaping, and no real difficulty until you reach the Barrel Cannons of Barrel Cannon Canyon, Kongo Jungle is the ideal training ground for your gorilla posse. You'll learn Donkey and Diddy's strengths and weaknesses, learn the vitally important Cartwheel Jump, and find out just how the differently colored creatures react. Claim Camera Pieces from Funky, Candy, and those on the levels. Happy hunting!

Donkey Kong 64[]

  • Instruction booklet bio from Professor Cranky Kong (page 20): The first level for you to monkey around in. Its humid tunnels and lush open areas are home to the shuffling Gnawty beavers with whom even a second-rate player like you should have no problem. Drop in to see Funky – and more importantly me – to buy your first desperately-needed new abilities. The imprisoned Diddy Kong should be your first objective, as the careless chimp takes you on a real wild ride!

Donkey Kong Country Returns[]

  • Prima Official Game Guide (page 18): The Jungle is the first world. This is Donkey Kong’s natural environment. There are lots of trees whose tops serve as platforms. Awks are one of the main enemies you face here, along with the tricky Frogoons. Of course, expect some of the Tikis, such as Tiki Goons and Tiki Dooms. This world is the least dangerous of the eight, so it is a great place for learning how to control Donkey Kong and experimenting with his various moves.

Trivia[]

  • Kongo Jungle bears a resemblance to Jungle Japes, the first area in Donkey Kong 64.
  • Kongo Jungle's name is a pun on Congo Jungle, a location in Africa, but has a "K" instead of a "C", implying that it is the main location of the Kongs.
